Tiger Air's recommendations, from the Tigertales Jan-Feb 2014 issue
With the recent spike of protest and
turmoil in the streets of Bangkok, a good alternative is a Manila weekend.
From Singapore, and from the rest of Southeast Asian neighbors, Manila is just 1.5-3
hours flights depending where you are based here in SE Asia. From Korea, Japan
and China, its only 2-4 hours flight to reach Manila, the 2nd largest city of the Philippines.
Personal recommendations are the
Intramuros, Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church, Fort Santiago, Carlos Celdran
Walking Tours, Rizal Park, National Museum, Ayala Museum, Manila-American
Cemetery, Manila Chinese Cemetery and Manila bay sunset cruise.
For nature lovers, I recommend a stroll around
La Mesa Watershed Ecopark and a run or bike around Ayala Alabang Village which
is also a bird sanctuary.
For wining and dining, I recommend Barrio
Fiesta, Milky Way. Cirkulo, Azuthai, Tsukiji, Masas Filipino Cuisine, Sentro
1771, Banana Leaf, Rockefeller, Queens at Bollywood, Tapella by Gaudi, John and
Yoko, Chihuahua Mexican Grill, Casa Armas and Namnam Filipino casual dining. Finding halal food in Manila is getting easier. Try the Behrouz Persian, Jerusalem Restaurant, Hossein @ Serendra, New Bombay, Kashmir, Bangali Halal Restaurant, Arya and Shawarma Food Centre. For vegetarian, check out my blog on Corner Tree Cafe. But
those on the go, Jollibee, Binalot and Baja Mexican are my comfort food.

For coffee lovers and those with sweet
tooth, Bo's Coffee (try the Bayani brew), Figaro (must try Barako coffee), Cafe Havana, Mary Grace and Cafe Briton.
